As part of preparing for my role as Director for WENA next year I attended Euro XPro in St Petersburg. Monica (the Director for CEE next year) and myself had a couple of responsibilities as we both worked on sessions and co-chaired the conference.

This was such a great opportunity to meet the countries I'll be working with in the coming year. (As well as represent AIESEC Australia with Robbie during role calls and global village!)

But is was so cold ... a conference in the snow, can you imagine?!

Daz's World's Greatest Shave

Hi everyone!

So as many of you would know I participated in the World's Greatest Shave 2008 for The Leukaemia Foundation. Ever 2 hours someone dies from Leukaemia related cancers in Australia, and every hour of every day someone is diagnosed.

It was an epic campaign that went on for all of February and March. Videos on YouTube, lots of emails, a Facebook group, stunts and competitions contributed to building hype about the charity and the event, but more significantly to build awareness of the cause and the charity.

On March 15th my hair (2 years of growth) was shaved off, at a public shaving event at Warringah Mall in Manly. The Manly Daily (local newspaper) was there for photos, the MC team and some other cool people from Sydney (Chena & Jake!) and my family (they surprised me!) came down to see it!! It was awesome.

I'm actually going to bank money in an hour or so and that will bring the final tally just under $2,900! The goal of $2,000 was SMASHED!! So excited, so proud, so honoured.

IPM 2008 - MCPs in Macedonia

Hi Everyone

So this is my first post after arriving in the office a little over a month ago. Its been really exciting seeing Kate's team work and experiencing life in the MC office everyday. Out of all the offices I've worked in, in my life, this is most definitely my favourite!!!!

But, the coolest thing which I have had the pleasure of doing so far in my role as MCPe, is to attend International Presidents Meeting 2008 (IPM), in the Republic of Macedonia.

IPM is a meeting of all the MCPs and MCP elects from AIESEC's network, which equates to over 200 of the best and brightest minds from AIESEC around the world. This conference is unique in AIESEC's calendar because here is where we elect the new AI team, devise our global focus areas and plan as Growth Networks for our activities in the next year.

IPM 08 was the 3rd International Conference which I have had the privilidge to attend and it was by far the best conference I have EVER attended. I want to share with you just a couple of things that made it so incredibly special.

Firstly, I got to meet my fellow MCPs. The people I will be working with over my term in 0809. I didn't just get to meet with them, but I had to work closely with them in deciding the future direction of AIESEC. It was amazing to be sitting with people from all over the world, people who come from vastly different social, economic and political backgrounds and discuss how AIESEC was going to change the world. It was inspiring to see how smart, connected and passionate people from our organisation are, right around the world.

Secondly, I was able to start thinking about AIESEC in Australia and what we should be doing in 2008-2009. Attending IPM reconnected me with the global planery and allowed me to understand all the cool things which we happening in AIESEC throughout the world. It really showed me how much Australia can contribute to AIESEC globally and how much the work we do has an impact in the world. Definitely a good way to start my visioning process.

Oh, and visiting Macedonia was pretty awesome as well. Perhaps I'll write another post to showcase the Republic of Macedonia!!

Back from FACIing in Hong Kong!

I was lucky enough to spend a week in Hong Kong as a FACI at their NLDS (aka SOLAR 2007). The MCP of Hong Kong, Beatrice, is one of my closest friends in the MCP network so I was very excited to be able to work with her and the rest of the MC and FACI team.

Working with another AP country gave me a great insight into how much we have in common with other countries. But it also showed the uniqueness of Australia, we have a lot of experiences to share and learn.

Any opportunity to attend an international conference I definitely recommend you to take!!!

...so I would like to open a blog posting about this issue :). Being in MC you constantly find yourself living and breathing AIESEC, which sometimes can have quite funny outcomes. So Here are my top things:

1. You don’t go on dates anymore, but you have scheduled meetings with your boyfriend
2. Your personal weekly priority is follow up with friends and parents
3. You have been caught almost naked by uni security guard, from changing close in the middle of classroom, because you couldn’t leave the room, due to a global chat.

I'm doing good on the TMU!

By now you should have seen the great TMU campaign I've been involved in around the Global Competency Model. It's great for me because it's fun, and it means I'm quickly learning a lot about the GCM. No doubt you would have seen Daz & Menia:

Good morning everyone!

It's the first day of many that AIESEC.net is in read-only mode, an annoying frustrating time for us all. I logged in to AIESEC.net ready to make a posting, before realising that I couldn't. *sigh*

With the IC guys back we're pushing towards preparing ourselves and our sessions for September Presidents Meeting, which is 24 September to 28 September. Before that, there is State Manager Transition on 21 September to 23 September. This is the conference that all the newly elected LCPs and SMs get together with the outgoing ones. The newly elected LCPs and SMs are all given training on AIESEC and leadership and management skills and knowledge. The outgoing LCPs and SMs have their years wrapped up, and they are taken through a process which helps them conclude on their next steps in AIESEC, or futures outside.

What else has been happening? Well we have come back from IC with a lot of opportunities with exchange partnerships that are well worth promoting! I was sitting in the IC bring-back meeting and I was astounded at the cool opportunities that are our there for our members. Particularly for me, as VPTM, I love having opportunities to promote! It means development, which means we're delivering on our promise!

OK, so I've wasted a good 10 minutes on this... I better get back to work before BO$$MAMA notices I'm stuffing around. =P

We just received the best email! Anne made a video message for us!!! We'd like to share it with you guys.

So just to fill some people in: I have Boony Dolls, and the second series of the Boony Doll was Boony and Beefy (because it was The Ashes Test Series). So since Boony has red hair and Beefy has blonde hair, Chloe and I thought what better way to live our IC experience, than through these plastic talking cricket dolls with moustaches. Looks like we're having a magnificent IC experience - getting the TASTE of a lot of cultures!!!

Weekend memories from the fun part of the MC

Half of the left behind MC(Kristina and Daz) just had a coolest weekend ever – we call it the curst weekend!

So the weekend started on Friday night. Everything was cool and we were excited about the upcoming weekend. Our plans were, to sleep in on Saturday and then go to Young blood markets, then go to project Echo event and then maybe go and listen some live music. For Saturday we had planned to go to watch the Idols show, go sightseeing with Chinese ceeders from SA and Polish night with UNSW.

So what actually happened:

At 7 am on Saturday morning we got SMS from IC people – they are having problems with check-in. The whole MC at home was waken up and immediate action in the morning was needed – so much about sleep in J. In the morning we tried to find different ways to solve the problem, but no success. Then we walked up to our rent agency to change the rent agreement – had to wait 30 mins for a person to turn up (there was sign, will be back in 5 mins). Then the trains were down and the rail buss driver obesely wasn’t really experienced, so instead of normal 20 minutes to the city, it took us 40 mins. By this time we had also missed the Young Blood markets.

First success in our plans – we made it to the project Echo event. We loved it, the content of the event was wonderful and made us think about the environment issues more. And we got to eat about 15-20 Danishes each! Yeay – and there went my diet!

After the event and Danishes, we decided that we need to walk this fat out of our bodies. So together with Daga, we walked from Sydney uni to Milson’s point and also did a small walk in the Luna Park.

For Sunday, Nicky organized us free tickets to see the former Idols participants show in the Cinema. We love you Nicky! The show ended up to be only 40 mins – every artist performed 2 songs. But while going out from the show, we come to a cool idea – while we are in the cinema and in the ticket area already – let’s go and see movies. So we ended up to see some parts of 3 movies – the knock out, the new penguins surf movie and the Simpson’s – and all of it for freeJ. After the movies we were suppose to go sightseeing with the Ceeders. And of course – it started to rain in Sydney. Daz still managed to do sightseeing with the girls, but I gave up…it was raining big time. I tried to go to my belly dance lessons instead. The lesson was supposed to start at 17.30. So I left the city well in advance, walked to North Sydney reached the dance studio – and there is a singe: CLOSED, will be back 9 am. I was very confused, because the time was 17.15. After some time, one lady come out and I asked what is happening, she said – well there was only 1 person in the lesson and we need 2 to have it…so everyone went home. Then I realized that my clock was wrong, it was actually 18.00 already!

The weekend ended in Kana’s place, eating polish pancakes and listening polish music.

Uhh…what a weekend!

Hello members!

So it's Friday, but I already have a brickbat and bouquet I'd like to put in the minutes.

Bouquet to Coles Express in the Forum of St. Leonards for having $0.99 Jersey Caramels! So cheap and so delicious!!!

I bought a couple of packets, which we shared around the office. The girls have self-control and were able to stop when they were about to go too far. Not me. I now have a headache!

So anyway, this week for me was a week of PD Chats, and I've been hearing some great numbers going through the recruitment pipeline. We're up to receiving applications for exchange, most LCs have their application deadlines in the next day or two. So far, we have 110 applications for exchange! This means we are on track for our 100 EPs goal. Especially when you hear that the LCs that needed members are running second round recruitments targeted around EPs, so this applications number is going up and up!

Australia leaves for International Congress 2007!

Yesterday our fantastic delegates for IC 2007 departed for the conference.

From Sydney Airport we had Kate (MCP), Anne (VP-ER), Lucy (VP-P) and Jake (SM-NSW) head off. From Adelaide Airport we had Laura (LCP-USA) and from Perth Airport we had Kylie (SM-WA). They are all meeting in Singapore, before flying straight to Turkey, all together!

I'd like to wish them all the best on their journey. We're all proud of you guys representing us, and we all hope you show everyone how great Australians are. All the best.

The LCD's are going crazy!

Ok so it is 6.23pm and we are in the office finishing some things off.

I am unfortunately doing Uni work (trying to get a few things donw prior to going to IC - not being very successful though) and while I am working quietly (the ER Cell are so the good ones of the office) all I hear is the loudest, most off tune singing possible from the LCD office.

Oh how I love having the LCD's back from SnA :-P

So I would like to take a poll. What is the best way to keep LCD's quiet...
a. Ear plugs
b. Take away their speakers
c. Ship them all to WA (its the furthest away from Syd).

Advice and help to get away from these crazy people is greatly appreciated!!!! :-P hehehehe

Ok so the MC office has taken a poll and it has been decided....

So much more work gets done when the evil threesome (Chloe, Daz and Lucy) are not in the office. Companies have been called, meetings organised, positions matched - YEAH!!!

However, I do have to say we have been feeling the absence of the team - Eloise and I have tried to fill the void (Eloise and her singing off key and our occasional random dancing) but it isn't the same.

We miss you guys and hope you are enjoying SnA.

Our gala event for July National Conference 2007 was held at the Melbourne Town Hall with some 250 attendees.

We welcomed all delegates and other participants to our conference through an address from the Honourable James Merlino.

We also announced our national awards. Congratulations to AIESEC in Adelaide University under the leadership of Robert Kwok for receiving Local Committee of the Year Award and AIESEC in the University of South Australia under Laura Allen for Developing Local Committee of the Year.

A fantastic start to our July National Conference!

Australian domination

Hi!

It is with great pride that I announce Kristina Toms, our beloved VP-F, onto the Finance Tools Support & Education Team (FTSE)! It was an arduous application process as she had to condense her extensive Finance knowledge, onto two pages. Yep that's right, only two pages!

She's on as a senior team member, where she will take responsibility for tasks like the analysis of the global budget survey, and developing and promoting national level financial tools. CONGRATULATIONS KRISTINA!!!

To our surprise, we found another Australian on the FTSE! Dino... TEDDY BEAR!!! The VP-F from the Monash LC was selected as a junior team member! A massive congratulations to Dino!!! Dino will be gathering GCPs for LC financial management and initiating discussions of the Global Finance community.

It is extremely rare to have two members of a global team from the same country. Especially given there were 31 applicants. Clearly Kristina and Dino were two absolute certainties for the team.

They join Lucy and myself, who are part of the International Ethics Sub-Committee and the Talent Management Unit, as Australians in global teams.

Half of the MC is already in Melbourne, sitting around the pool table in Daz`s house and and enjoying the high speed wireless :)!

Today - Me, Chloe, Lucy and Kate left our cold, but lovely house in Sydney and took a flight to Melbourne. We had Daz waiting us in the gate and we got a lovely tour with Daz`s van.
Melbourne is wonderful!
Now we can feel that the conference is almost here already...the excitement and tension in the room is getting higher and higher.

We cant wait to see you all!!!

Hey everyone!

We learned late last week that our dear VP-Projects, Ms. Lucy Symons, was selected onto the International Ethics Sub-Committee on the Education team! She'll be responsible for bringing the code of ethics to the forefront of discussion across the network!!!

The Sub-Committee is comprised of two sub-teams: a case solving and an education team. Lucy joins 2 other people on the education team. Their first meeting is on Tuesday at 12am Sydney time (that's Wednesday morning - I always get that mixed up). The poor thing, it seems all her virtual meetings will be at ridiculous times like these...

We're very proud of you Lucy to represent Australia like this - you are the first of many Australian AIESECers to get involved globally like this in a year that Australia will make it's presence in the global network felt.

The most difficult decision yet... the ordering of MC Hoodies

Today we had to make one of the most important decisions of our term and I am concerned about its indication on the rest of our year :-S

In deciding on the ever important MC item for 07-08 we came down to the last 20 minutes before the decision deadline arguing over the colour of our zip up hoodies and the writing.

I learnt some key things today that will affect my working style in the future:

a) Despite Kate's size she is a manipulative non-ethical dictator :-)
b) If its not Kate's way its the high way
c) Despite having a majority in votes for the pale blue hoodies our team was overuled by this powerful, malicious dictator.

The other options of grey or navy blue were boring and basically ask for us to be run over by a car. Remember grey cars are at the most accident prone on the road cause they just "blend into the background!" Our MC doesn't just blend in - we stand out and lead by example.

d) After trying to negotiate with her on getting grey hoodies with hot pink writing, so we dont blend into the carpet at conference, our leader went ahead and ordered what she wanted.

Tsk tsk tsk

What happened to the non-political, equality for all organisation that we are part of?

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share with everyone the vibe around the office right now... it's 8:30am and Ruth received a Skype call from Brazil announcing that she was selected as VP-Logistics for IC 2008 in Brazil!!! I was sitting in the Board Room (ready for a 9:30am meeting - yep I was a bit early) and then I hear a SCREAMMM!!! OHHH MYYY GODDD!!! Ruthie emerged from the Cool Office, tears in her eyes, the biggest smile on her face, it was beautiful.

This is on top of a number of other great next steps for the outgoing MC:

Kyle learned she was selected into the FMP program at GE Commercial Finance! She'll be working with the interns!
Chena received a graduate position with Westpac in Institutional Banking ($60+k p.a. thank you very much!)

Nudie Day!

Hey everyone,

It was a day of full-fledged meetings in the office today, which was very hard on us elects. We had a run through of MelCon (MAKE SURE YOU ALL REGISTER) and our national plan (BASED ON THE WONDERFUL CSFs WE ALL CHOSE - thanks guys for choosing the most awesome ones), a chat about legislation, and a big meeting on Semester 2 recruitment!

So as you could imagine, very intense.

But we were welcomed by the arrival of NUDIE. You know, the juice?! Well, dear Chloe wrote in about us being passionate Nudie lovers, and we were lucky enough to win a one-month supply of Nudie juice! Needless to say, now we all love Nudie!

Hey!

Thanks Daz for organising this. I have never been great at uploading blogs but I'm really excited about this one.

So hi everyone! Transition has been great! Busy, but I am really really excited about July Conference. Pre-conference and SST Seminar is also going to be fantastic!

Anyway..back to work.

Daz is running around in the office and telling everyone of the MC members to do a post in the blog about of how excited we all are about the new blog :)!

Apart from that: I am really excited about our new blog! We will keep you all updated about the MC work, life and gossip!
